A Cruise round the Western Mediterranean 2010
Strangely, the narrator doesn't know how to pronounce place names such as Rutherglen and Bothwellhaugh, or the very famous Motherwell name, Dalziel.
When people ask where i was born, I say 'in the hoose' even as a first born just less than 6km from Bellshill Maternity and 8km from Rottenrow so nearly midline between them as the crow flies-- that was the norm mid-50s! At 14 mins in that's a view of Coatbridge Fountain which I passed many times to and from High School probably on the buses shown further along the Main St. Airdrie Savings Bank building dominates on the left (and looks magnificent although I didn't appreciate that at the time, and think its still there although at one stage the middle structure, the fountain was moved a wee bit I believe), and the bus stands for coming back to east (Glasgow) and north east directions were to the right as there was a one-way routing. Still remember Dexters. Wow! Nice find!
Me too. Born at 19 Hope Street, Mossend. All gone now.
I love social history. My parents and thier families lived and worked in the Lanarkshire district. My dad worked in steel mill and he used to talk about how much hot hard work it was not to mention dangerous. I also have miners in my family. It is real shame that Hamiton has lost its sense of community nowadays and there is nothing much to attract or keep people there. My family a few of them still call Hamilton home. what is left of them. Thank you for sharing this fascinating documentery.
Very sad to see the destruction of the community of Bothwellhaugh at the end.The place where the Late great Sir Matt Busby grew up 😊
What a shame that now in 2022 the town centre is a ghost town...lost all the character a town needed😪
Proud Airdrieonian , along with our neighbour Coatbridge, we were coal, iron and steel... Good people!! Salt of the earth!! Ghost towns now...
brilliant
Great film. I love to see videos like this. It shows a simpler world and, sadly, a better world. The only hope we have for the future is that benevolent aliens invade planet earth and execute every person in authority and let the rest of us live in harmony because most of the problems we have nowadays are caused by authority
yup
I had 2x great grandparents that lived and worked in Bothwellhaugh my parents left the village in the mid 50s for the pits in Midlothian great video thanks for posting

Is that an Eb compensating tuba?
EK is your worst nightmare-from shuteye to sun up-if it ever comes up-not enough lampposts to hang enough social engineers from
East Kilbride or polo mint town, roundabout town!!! Whirlies.
Thank you for this . Even though most it was way before my time (I was born in 64) it’s still fantastic to look back on places I know. I was a service engineer for shop equipment and trying to find shops in EK & Cumbernauld was a nightmare, as the roads and pavements never met you couldn’t stop & ask someone where xyz shop is. Cumbernauld is an eyesore. I come from cambuslang & used to go to the swimming baths in ruglen just about every day during the school summer holidays . As a working adult I live in Hamilton now and watched the decline of the Craig (ravenscraig) , the steel produced there was the best steel in the world , Volvo , bmw and Mercedes all used it . The problem was it was too expensive once you took transportation cost it to consideration. What a great game of cut the ham down .. give a guy a sharp knife , blindfold him then spin him round until he was dizzy , what could possibly go wrong ? Health and safety would have a field day today. It was great seeing kids play outside and making their own entertainment just like we used to do in the 70’s.
Glad you enjoyrd the video I posted it as I grew up in Rutherglen.
The Frantic Photographer I grew up in cambuslang, I had an uncle who lived in ruglen
Good film, I'm 60. I remember Bothwellhaugh "the village at the end of the film" getting off a bus, a short walk, then going up the stairs to my Grannies. And the miserable mid 80s when I was the only one working in the BSR factory. I was getting £1.20 an hour and i kept my tea bags n sugar in the office safe.
Sono bravissimi, dovrebbero avere molta più visibilità !

What a great film. Also great too Rutherglen of the day. Some of those landmarks are still here in it today, still standing! My grandfather also worked in Colvells, both sides of my family came from Lanarkshire, so it's fantastic to see this. Thanks for posting.!

An excellent film, which succinctly points out the changes afflicting not just a region, but our country as a whole....Thank you My modest tribute to the miners of Blantyre whom lost their lives down the mine, includes two poignant songs..... ua-cam.com/video/sY_u6O_afGc/v-deo.html

NO strap! Nathan Gash you'll ruin your bowling arm.... what a legend! Hard core. Splendid..
Thank you so much, this was very enjoyable. I can remember some of it as I am 62 and was born at Barncluith House in Hamilton and brought up in Silvertonhill. My mother was born in Wishaw but spent most of her life in Hamilton. She says she can remember when the Common Green in Hamilton (At the Old Town area) was occupied by American soldiers at the start of WW2 and everyone was fascinated with their accents and how they looked. My mother's grandfather was Sir Harry Lauder and he would stay with them at Barncluith House when he was appearing in the Granada theatre and the Hippodrome theatre. Part of the building of the Granada theatre is still there, I'm sure the date on it is 1886. I can remember going to that theatre when I was very young. My friends grandfather and her family were part of Bostock and Womble who owned and ran most of the theatres in Hamilton in the 1920's. Some old wall posters advertising Bostock and Womble were found in the attic room of the Regal cinema when they were demolishing it a few years ago. Thank you for bringing back some lovely memories.
Glad you liked it, I was born in Lanark and brought up in Rutherglen, though I have lived in England for nearly 40 years. Same age as you!
kpzcbttp hi, I read your comment about how one of you friend in his 90s takes castor oil with beetroot juice... do you know the proportions for each ingredient and the timing of the mixture? Is this taken daily?? Can I somehow contact your friend to ask him about this remedy? Thank you
I love listening to Sir Harry Lauder's music. I am into music hall history. You have an interesting family background and story to tell. If you do not mind my saying so. I intend to offence. I hope this finds you well.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, it is very much appreciated. @TheDonnellymarie
So sorry as i have just seen your comment as during the last 3 years i have been a bit unwell. However although iou may not need the info about the mixture here it is any way. 2cups of tomato juice and add a half teaspoon of cator oil. Drink this amount each time as one in the morning one at lunchtime and one in the evening about 6pm. Not before you go to bed though. Drink the mixture every other day. Sadly my friend has passed away but he was 98 and was very fit all his life as he was a boxing champion and coach. Sorry for the massive delay but I thought it only manners to answer you anyway. Kind regards.
Les Bomb'Zatomiks te remercient de ce joli medley bien mené. Beau travail, peut-être à bientôt à Durham.....Fab
Just saw you guys playing in Edinburgh just off Lothian road, amazing!

I once went on a cruise like that when York flooded!
Looks like Slartibartfast sneaked in some crafty work on Montenegro too! :-)
Our cruise ship sailed through the Lagoon as well
And no visit to Italy would be complete without some sort of emergency vehicle tearing along...
